Every woman is constructed differently and it is not uncommon for them to feel dissatisfied with parts of their genitalia. This can lead to feelings of embarrassment, discomfort during everyday activities or when wearing tight fitting clothes.
Labiaplasty is a procedure to help to reduce or reshape the labia minora, the inner lips of the vagina – the skin that covers the female clitoris and vaginal opening.
Why choose Labiaplasty?
Labia reduction surgery is ideal for women who are made uncomfortable and experience sexual dysfunction, pain or embarrassment as a result of the large protuberant appearance of their labia minora.
Women with exceptionally long or unequal length of the labia minora can have them aesthetically reshaped with labiaplasty.
Relieve discomfort, embarrassment or pain
Gives a natural look
Labia reduction surgeries are very individualised procedures. Having good communication between you and your surgeon is essential, as your surgeon can answer specific questions about your exact needs.
In your initial consultation, Dr Cotrufo will evaluate your health, and will discuss your options about labia reduction surgery with you.
They will also discuss with you what will happen before, during and after your procedure so you know what to expect and when.
Have the time to ask Dr Cotrufo for advice and to ask questions about the surgery
Explain your reasons for seeking surgery
Complete a full health evaluation and genital examination
Discuss the options that are open to you, including costs and timescales
Any surgery, no matter how small, requires you to be in the best health. Because of this, you may be asked to make a few lifestyle changes in the run-up to your labiaplasty, as well as avoiding or taking particular medications.
This may include:
Stopping smoking
Refraining from any stringent diets
Adjusting or taking certain medications
Avoiding aspirin, herbal supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs
Stopping drinking alcohol
Avoiding overexposure to the sun
Labiaplasty surgery is normally performed under local anaesthetic and takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the extent of work
Your surgeon will trim the inner folds, so that they no longer protrude – either by reducing the edges of the labia, or by snipping out a ‘V’ shape wedge of tissue
The remaining edges are carefully brought back together with absorbable sutures, taking care to create a natural-looking result
You should be able to return home the same day as your procedure, though we do advise a friend or relative assist you for the first 48-72 hours
After that:
You may notice some bruising around your labia, which is perfectly normal and should subside about 7-14 days after surgery
Although you might feel sore and tired for a few days following your surgery, you will be up and around in 48 to 72 hours. Dr Cotrufo might recommend minimal walking for the first 3-5 days after surgery.
It’s fine to shower with mildly warm water on the second day after your operation.
Please note that intercourse needs to be avoided for the whole healing period – about 6 weeks.
You will need to avoid strenuous exercise of all kinds for several weeks after surgery
Aftercare appointments will be scheduled with Dr Cotrufo for you to attend, these are included as part of your surgery fee

Vaginal tightening surgery, known by the technical term vaginoplasty, is a procedure that returns strength and control to the muscles of the vagina.
Why choose vaginoplasty?
There are many reasons why women consider vaginal tightening; they may experience discomfort or lack of sensation during sex or might have been left with weakened or loose vaginal muscles following childbirth. When exercises are unable to improve this stretching, vaginoplasty can help restore tone and enhance your sexual fulfilment and confidence
Improve the tone of muscles in and around the vagina
Tackle discomfort caused by a loose vagina
Restore or rejuvenate the vagina following childbirth
Increase sensual experience during sexual intercourse
The choice to have a vaginoplasty procedure is a very personal one and most women will have explored correction through exercise before selecting the surgical path. Alternative surgical or non-surgical procedures like PRP G-spot injections that may be better suited to your individual circumstances, Dr Cotrufo will discuss these with you during your consultation.
Discuss the reasons for you exploring this procedure
Learn more about the procedure involved
Discuss the care you will receive before, during and after surgery
Undergo a full health evaluation
Have an assessment of the vagina
Be able to ask questions and talk through what other options may be available
Learn about timescales and vaginal tightening costs
It’s important to feel as comfortable as possible throughout any surgery, which is what makes establishing good communication with your surgeon so fundamental. This process will start in your consultation when you will meet face to face with your surgeon.
As your surgery approaches, you may be asked to make some small lifestyle changes and asked to avoid particular activities and medications.
This may include:
Taking medical tests including blood tests
Stopping smoking
Adjusting or stop taking certain medications
Avoiding aspirin, herbal supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs
Refraining from drinking alcohol
Avoiding sun overexposure
Committing not to make extreme dietary changes
When a general anaesthetic is used during surgery you will need to follow fasting instructions given by the surgeon.
The vaginal tightening procedure usually lasts around an hour, though the type of anaesthetic used will influence this slightly and it may take longer if you are having multiple procedures
The muscles at the back of your vagina will be shortened with absorbable sutures and any excess skin removed
Depending on your individual circumstances, the vaginal opening may also undergo some reconstruction
After surgery, you may be required to stay overnight in the clinic
After that:
You should be able to walk comfortably after 2-4 days
You should be able to return to work after 1 week
The sutures will be naturally absorbed by your body
You should avoid strenuous activities of all kinds for several weeks
The results of your operation should be evident after a few weeks and your surgeon will be able to advise when you will be able to resume sexual intercourse and exercise
You will need to attend aftercare appointments at the clinic and Dr Cotrufo will answer any questions about your recovery
