Fat injection is certainly an option for breast augmentation, and this procedure has been refined over the last two decades in both reconstructive surgery, following cancer treatment, but also for simple direct augmentation or to correct asymmetry. My first publication on this topic was in 2008 in the Plastic and Reconstructive Journal, where I described the outcome of my first 50 cases of fat grafting to the breast. The fat injection into the breast needs to be processed through centrifugation to optimise the graft take, and I believe this approach is extremely successful. With the appropriate technique, the survival rate (graft take) is in the range of 70-90% (in non-smokers, of course).
Breast implants come in different materials (saline or silicone), shapes (round or teardrop), and placements (over or under the muscle), and I tailor each option to your body and goals. I take time during consultations to walk through every option so you feel fully informed. The main advantages of silicone implants is that they give a very predictable outcome if the measurements are correct and the surgical technique is executed adequately. Of course, the healing process is delicate, and our service is very thorough in following up patients after surgery and making sure they are compliant with their instructions.
Are Breast Implants Safe?
Like any surgery, there are risks. But in expert hands, breast implant procedures are generally safe with excellent outcomes. I use only MHRA-approved, high-quality implants with a long record of durability and safety. All activities are performed in a CQC-registered facility, and I’m listed on both the GMC and EBOPRAS specialist registers for plastic surgery.
I Want Breast Implants That Look Natural, What Size Should I Go For?
This is one of the most important parts of your consultation. It is crucial to measure carefully 1) the footprint of the breast, 2) the texture of the soft tissues, 3) the overlapping (pectoralis) muscle-to-glandular tissue and 4) the sternal insertion of the muscle. Once all these parameters are clear, we can talk about size. I do not have an eye for oversized breasts, but this is where subjectivity leads the decision, and I am committed to keeping my patients safe from complications resulting from using implants too large for their frames. What is Recovery Like After Breast Implants?
Following surgery, some swelling and tightness are normal. I provide every patient with a bespoke aftercare plan including pain relief, support bras, and gentle return to movement. Most patients return to desk-based work within a week and resume normal activities within six weeks.
You’ll have a series of follow-up appointments with me to monitor your healing and ensure you’re happy every step of the way. How Long Do Breast Implants Last?
Modern breast implants are designed to be long-lasting. While not technically lifetime devices, most last 10–20 years without issue. I also offer revision surgeries when needed and encourage regular check-ups to monitor breast health.
What About Scars?
All surgery leaves scars, but I use discreet incision techniques, usually in the fold beneath the breast, to keep them hidden and minimal. With proper care, scars fade significantly over time. Any use of nicotine will affect the healing process, including scar formation.
