WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE YOUR DERMAL FILLERS TREATMENT

Meeting with your surgeon before your procedure will help to set clear expectations and put in place the good communication that is fundamental for creating a comfortable and relaxing experience.

DURING YOUR CONSULTATION, YOU WILL:

• Discuss your reasons for seeking advice and how long you have been noticing effects of age
• Learn more about dermal fillers, the procedure and before and aftercare
• Undergo a full health evaluation
• Have an assessment of the area being treated and the surrounding tissues.
• Talk about timescales and costs

As your treatment approaches, you may be asked to make some small lifestyle changes and asked to avoid particular activities and medications

This may include:

• Stopping smoking to help reduce bruising and make the healing much faster
• Adjusting or stop taking certain medications
• Avoiding aspirin, herbal supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs
• Avoiding sun overexposure, particularly to the face
• Committing to not making stringent changes to your diet

THE DERMAL FILLER PROCEDURE:

• Each procedure should last between 15 minutes and 1 hour
• The area to be treated is cleaned and a numbing cream can be applied. Dr Cotrufo has a very soft touch, uses very fine needles or cannulas and in most cases, can proceed without any anaesthesia.
• Sometimes the treated area needs to be massaged. Dr Cotrufo often recommends to use an ice or cold pack to reduce the swelling.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT WITH FILLERS

You will be able to leave the clinic straight after your procedure.

Sometimes you may notice some swelling and a little bruising. It is very rare and it depends on the type of fillers you chose and the area where it is injected. For example, the “nasolabial fold” around the mouth is more prone than the nose or crow’s feet for bruising.

After that:

• Swelling and bruising should subside within 48 hours
• You can return to work or other activities straight away
• Your aftercare and any follow up appointments will be scheduled with your plastic surgeon
