WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE A BBL FAT INJECTION PROCEDURE:

As your surgery approaches you may be asked to make some small lifestyle changes and told to avoid particular activities and medications.

This may include:

Taking medical tests including blood tests
Stopping smoking
Adjusting or taking certain medications
Avoiding aspirin, herbal supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs
Refraining from drinking alcohol
Avoiding sun overexposure, particular to the face
Committing not to make stringent changes to your diet

If a general anaesthetic is to be used during surgery, you will be given fasting instructions by the surgeon.

THE BRAZILIAN BUTTOCK LIFT PROCEDURE:

A Brazilian buttock lift usually takes 3-4 hours to complete
The surgery is likely to take longer when combined with other procedures
Fat is taken from a determined site by liposuction and purified before being injected into the buttock
This is generally done via incisions made strategically on the bottom or thigh
These incisions are then closed with sutures

AFTER YOUR BBL PROCEDURE

You will need to stay in the clinic overnight before returning home to begin your buttock lift recovery.

After that:

You should walk around as soon as you feel able
If you have a fairly inactive job you should be able to return to work within 1-2 weeks, this may be slightly longer if your job is more active
You will need to wear a compression bandage for 2 weeks
You should avoid all strenuous exercise and activities including housework for up to 6 weeks and may need to refrain from exercise such as jogging and cycling for several weeks more
Bruising and swelling should subside after around 2 weeks

THE BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION PROCEDURE

Buttock augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2 hours.
Buttock implants are inserted into each buttock through a single incision in the infragluteal fold (crease between the buttock cheeks)
The implants are positioned deep within or under the gluteus maximus muscle to look as natural as possible.
The incision is then closed with self-dissolving sutures, so there is no need to struggle with suture removal afterwards

AFTER YOUR BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION

After your butt implant surgery, you will likely need to stay overnight in the clinic; when it is time to return home, we advise that a friend or relative drives you.

You should be able to return to work in 2-4 weeks
You will not be allowed to sit or sleep on your butt for 2 weeks. Dr Cotrufo will introduce his specific sitting protocol and follow you up all the way through
You should start walking around as soon as possible
Bruising to the bottom and thighs should subside 7-14 days after surgery.
You should avoid hot and spicy foods, vigorous activity and heavy lifting for around one month
Scarring may take up to a year to settle by lightening in colour and flattening
You will attend aftercare appointments with Dr Cotrufo who will also be available to answer queries over the phone.
